Course Description
This course prepares students for the creation and performance of dance in concert. All elements of the concert dance experience including choreography, lighting, costuming, and music are explored. Practical experience is obtained through college and community dance performances. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC.

- Apply choreographic tools and techniques to communicate ideas and emotions through movement.
- Apply choreographic techniques developed by master choreographers of modern dance such as Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Alwin Nikolais, Paul Taylor, Alvin Ailey, and Twyla Tharp.
- Perform dance concert choreography including elements of lighting, costumes, scenic design, and music in a concert dance setting.
Course Objectives
- 1. Compose a choreographed dance from its inception through public performance.
- 2. Practice communication skills by working with other dancers, choreographers, and artistic directors.
- 3. Construct dances in different dance styles to integrate into dance concert performances.
- 4. Organize and produce a dance concert including costumes, props, lighting, sets, music, and recording.

Compose a fully developed dance and direct choreography, formations, stage presence, and performance quality. Apply feedback received during work-in-progress showings.

Eligible Disciplines
Dance: Master's degree in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis, OR bachelor's degree in any of the above AND master's degree in physical education, any life science, physiology, theater arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts, or music OR the equivalent. Master's degree required.
