Course Description
Assigned clinical practice within a health care facility in areas of routine ECG testing, stress testing, monitor technician, Holter monitoring, and pacemaker evaluation. PREREQUISITE: ALH A115 and CVT A160. Transfer Credit: CSU.
Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)
- Perform ECG, treadmill stress testing and designated duties of a cardiovascular technician.
Course Objectives
- 1. Perform electrocardiograms within a hospital or clinic setting unassisted.
- 2. Perform set-up and monitoring of patients during stress testing with assistance.
- 3. Perform set-up of Holter monitors and scanning of the tapes with assistance.
- 4. Recognize abnormalities, document and troubleshoot problems with patients on continuous cardiac monitoring with assistance.
- 5. Interact with patients in a friendly, courteous manner demonstrating concern for their well-being.
- 6. Communicate effectively with patients.
- 7. Conform to the rules of dress established by the clinical facility and college.
- 8. Demonstrate initiative and cooperativeness by volunteering to do tasks not specifically assigned.
- 9. Demonstrate confidence by performing assignments without hesitation and with the appropriate level of accuracy.
- 10. Complete all clinical work assignments in a reasonable length of time.
Lecture Content
Students will be assigned to a cardiology department within a clinical affiliate and provided assignments, supervision, and evaluation by a designated clinical instructor/supervisor. During the weekly seminar, students will give an oral presentation and submit a report in writing of a cardiac pathology or related cardiac issue.
