Course Description

Formerly: Career Internship. This course is designed to familiarize students with college. Topics include an introduction to the principles of college student behaviors, student conduct, academic procedures, college policies, goal setting, and student support services. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC: Credit Limitations: COUN G100, G101, G104, COUN G105, COUN G115, COUN G150, COUN G151, COUN G152, COUN G153, COUN G154, COUN G155, COUN G156, COUN G200 and COUN G205 combined: maximum credit, 3 units.

Demonstration of Critical Thinking

Students will evaluate higher education systems, and academic requirements to make informed decisions about their educational pathways. They will apply critical thinking to select appropriate techniques to become successful in college.

Required Writing, Problem Solving, Skills Demonstration

Students will participate in a project that involves use of sources, written preparation and organization of key components, and oral presentation to their peers.

Eligible Discipline(s)

  • Counseling: Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent. (NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.) Master's degree required.
