Course Description

This course teaches basic theory in the following subjects: health and safety, disinfection and sanitation, anatomy, chemistry, physiology, bacteriology, mycology, chemical hair services, texture, hair sculpting, natural hair , salon success, professionalism, and professional ethics. Course guidelines are in compliance with the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Rules and Regulations. This is the first course in a series of four. Not Transferable.

Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)

  1. Identify California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology health and safety rules and regulations.
  2. Identify beginning practical manipulative skills for: disinfection, sanitation, hair cutting, hair design, permanent waving, relaxing, and hair color.
  3. Apply cosmetology concepts to salon and client-based scenarios.
  4. Discuss life skills, job related stress, and proper body ergonomics.

  • Apply entry level skills in practical hair design, hair sculpture, permanent waving, relaxing, hair color, and disinfection.
  • Identify the types of color design transformations.
  • Explain chemical composition and safety requirements for disinfection, permanent waving, and relaxers.
