Course Description
This course teaches basic theory in the following subjects: health and safety, disinfection and sanitation, anatomy, chemistry, physiology, bacteriology, mycology, chemical hair services, texture, hair sculpting, natural hair , salon success, professionalism, and professional ethics. Course guidelines are in compliance with the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Rules and Regulations. This is the first course in a series of four. Not Transferable.

- Identify beginning practical manipulative skills for: disinfection, sanitation, hair cutting, hair design, permanent waving, relaxing, and hair color.

- Discuss life skills, job related stress, and proper body ergonomics.
Course Objectives
- 1. Apply entry level skills in practical hair design, hair sculpture, permanent waving, relaxing, hair color, and disinfection.
- 2. Identify the types of color design transformations.
- 3. Explain chemical composition and safety requirements for disinfection, permanent waving, and relaxers.

Students must complete a digital or print portfolio in which they must identify the ten different levels in hair color. They must include samples of warm and cool color tones within each level.

Eligible Disciplines
Cosmetology: Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
