Course Description
Regulations related to general construction safety. Meets the requirements and follows the guidelines for 30-hour OSHA Construction Outreach Training. U.S. Department of Labor cards will be issued upon successful completion of this course. Transfer Credit: CSU.
Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)
- Discuss the history of the Safety Movement in the United States and the concerns of the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal-OSHA).
- Describe the appropriate ways of dealing with Cal-OSHA compliance and Cal-OSHA inspections.
- Develop a contractor's safety program that is compliant with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration manual.
Course Objectives
- 1. Discuss the history of the Safety Movement, OSHA, and the Williams Steiger Act.
- 2. List appropriate ways of dealing with Cal-OSHA compliance.
- 3. Discuss appropriate ways of dealing with Cal-OSHA inspections.
- 4. Develop a contractors safety program.
- 5. Analyze illness, injury, injury prevention plans and Senate Bill 198.
- 6. Define accident data and statistics, terminology, investigations, workmens compensation, and workmens fraud
- 7. Use Occupational Safety and Health Administration manual: introductions, definitions, competent person designation, and P.P.E.
- 8. Review dusts, fumes, mists, vapors, gases, smoke, and fire protection regulations.
- 9. Review rock drilling, excavations, trenches and earthwork regulations.
- 10. Evaluate regulations for bins, bunkers, hoppers, conveyors, storage, and blasting operations
- 11. List haulage and earth moving regulations
- 12. List regulations for cranes and signals.
- 13. List regulations for vehicle, traffic control, flaggers, barricades, and work over and near water.
- 14. List regulations for standard railings, ramps, runways, stairwells, stairs, access, and egress
- 15. List regulations for floors, roofs, wall openings, and temporary floors
- 16. List regulations for scaffolds, general types, and suspended scaffolds
- 17. List assured grounding, ground fault circuit interrupt, and ox/Acer USG 4-Storage Erection regulations.
