Course Description

The course will provide the student with a fundamental understanding of the role and duties of the Communications Training Officer (CTO). The student will apply effective instructional strategies and understand methods for evaluating novice public safety dispatchers. The student will demonstrate coaching and mentoring skills through interactive experiences, such as role-playing, simulations, and written exercises. Concepts to be covered will include instructional techniques, student assessment and evaluation. PREREQUISITE: CJ G078 or CJ G079. ADVISORY: Recommended for students with a minimum of one year experience as a public safety dispatcher. Not Transferable.

Demonstration of Critical Thinking

Interactive video exercises relating to trainee/trainer activities. Student will view a POST developed video of scenarios relating to evaluations and demonstrations. Students will independently write an evaluation of what they viewed on the tape for later group discussions.

Eligible Disciplines

Administration of justice (police science, corrections, law enforcement): Any bachelors degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
