Course Description

Students will learn how to use AI tools to support communication, brainstorming, and creative expression. This course includes guided practice with AI text, image, and voice generation tools to enhance writing, visual design, and media production. Not Transferable.

Course Objectives

  • 1. Identify common AI tools used for enhancing communication, such as writing assistants, voice tools, and presentation generators.
  • 2. Demonstrate how to use AI applications to brainstorm, organize, and refine written content for personal or professional purposes.
  • 3. Generate original visual, audio, or multimedia content using AI image, voice, or video generation platforms.
  • 4. Explain the role of AI in supporting creative expression, including storytelling, visual design, and content creation.
  • 5. Practice prompt engineering techniques to guide AI tools toward desired creative and communicative outputs.
  • 6. Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of AI-generated content, considering context, tone, and audience.
  • 7. Discuss strategies for maintaining authenticity and personal voice when integrating AI into creative or communicative work.

Instructional Techniques

This course will utilize a combination of lecture, system simulators, classroom discussion with student interactions, problem-solving techniques, quizzes, exams, and troubleshooting assignments to achieve the goals and objectives of this course. All instructional methods are consistent across all modalities.

Reading Assignments

Read open educational resource materials, journal articles and corporate reports, news articles, interactive career websites, and privacy policies.

Writing Assignments

Plan, draft, and refine AI-assisted written, visual, and multimedia content while reflecting on how to maintain authenticity, creativity, and responsible communication when using AI tools.

Out-of-class Assignments

Practice with AI tools to generate and edit written or visual content, analyzing examples of AI-assisted communication, and completing short reflections or projects that demonstrate creative and ethical application of AI in personal or professional contexts.

Demonstration of Critical Thinking

Craft effective prompts, produce and refine AI-generated content, and apply creative and ethical decision-making to communication and design tasks.

Eligible Discipline(s)

  • Computer information systems (computer network installation, microcomputer technology, computer applications): Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
  • Computer service technology: Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
  • Computer science: Master’s degree in computer science or computer engineering OR bachelor’s degree in either of the above AND master’s degree in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering OR bachelor’s degree in engineering AND master’s degree in cybernetics, engineering mathematics, or business administration OR bachelor’s degree in mathematics AND master’s degree in cybernetics, engineering mathematics, or business administration OR bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a master’s degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems OR the equivalent. Note: Courses in the use of computer programs for application to a particular discipline may be classified, for the minimum qualification purposes, under the discipline of the application.
