Course Description
Formerly: BCT C305. This class will concentrate on the International Building Code chapters concerning, wood and steel framing, roofing and reroofing, drywall, stucco, plaster, plastics, soil classification, and foundation investigation. Transfer Credit: CSU.
Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)
- Inspect, test, analyze, and report on framing requirements (e.g., steel, wood, interior, and exterior) to ensure compliance with local and federal building code and ordinance regulations.
Course Objectives
- 1. Identify and inspect various types of connectors and fasteners used in steel and wood framed buildings.
- 2. Analyze and inspect steel and wood framed structures for compliance with all building code requirements.
- 3. Explain code requirements to building construction personnel.
- 4. Inspect various types of interior and exterior wall and ceiling coverings for compliance with building code requirements.
- 5. Evaluate test reports on soil conditions prior to start of construction.
- 6. Inspect for compliance with soil engineers' specifications.
- 7. Appraise the quality of workmanship in steel and wood framed structures.

Method(s) of Instruction
Instructional Techniques
A variety of instructional techniques will be employed to encompass different student learning styles. These may include, but are not limited to, lecture, discussion, projects and small group activities. Instruction will be supplemented, where appropriate, by digital media presentations & resources, guest speakers and field trips.

Weekly projects, plans, revisions, discussion topic responses that will demonstrate skills application through authentic quality control projects.

Read/View the required materials, conduct appropriate research, prepare documents/plans, complete and revise projects, and prepare for quizzes/exams.

Projects will be completed to demonstrate competencies in the workplace in relation to residential framing requirements.

Eligible Disciplines
Building codes and regulations (inspecting of construction, building codes,...: Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
