Course Description
Introduction to the codes and standards prevalent in the Southern California area. Concentration is on Title 24 and Americans With Disabilities Act regulations, and the Uniform Building Code and local enforcement as applied to building design. Transfer Credit: CSU.
Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)
- Identify and apply Building Codes and Standards with respect to occupancy, area, construction type, fire resistance, exiting and accessibility to the design and construction of buildings.
Course Objectives
- 1. Recognize the political control by government of building development.
- 2. Interpret the basic objectives of the more common codes and standards.
- 3. Apply occupancy classifications and building area limitation requirements to buildings.
- 4. Apply type of construction and fire resistive classifications and requirements to buildings.
- 5. Apply exiting requirements to buildings.
- 6. Apply accessibility requirements to buildings.
- 7. Attend a local planning commission meeting and submit a report on what was observed.
