Course Description
Provides an analysis of the airline industry by providing historical background information on the evolution of the United States air transportation system along with a current analysis of the airlines, air traffic control system, business aviation and general aviation. The goal is to prepare students for entry into the airline industry through an analysis of market factors that influence airline operations as well as fleet planning, route planning, strategic planning and labor issues. - Explain the basic functions of airline scheduling, load management, fleet management and labor management.
Course Objectives
- 1. Explain the history of the U.S. airline industry and the legislation that has shaped it.
- 2. Gain experience in public speaking through presentation of current topics and industry information to the class.
- 3. Explain the effect the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 has had on the economics of the airline industry.
- 4. Explain the role of unions in the airline industry.
- 5. Write a cover letter and resume tailored to positions in the airline industry.
- 6. Describe airline fleet management.
- 7. Describe the concept of Revenue per Available Seat Mile.
- 8. Describe the concept of Cost per Available Seat Mile.
- 9. List the steps involved in accomplishing phased maintenance on an aircraft operated by a commercial air carrier.
