Course Description
Course provides simulator instruction to be given concurrent with instrument flight lessons contained in APT A134. Course provides preparation for the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) practical examination for the Instrument Rating. Transfer Credit: CSU.
Course Level Student Learning Outcome(s)
- Performs within the tolerances for each flight maneuver required by in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Practical Test Standards for Instrument Pilot Airplane.
Course Objectives
- 1. Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of an airplane by reference to instruments alone.
- 2. Solve unfamiliar problems relating to instrument and equipment failures in flight.
- 3. Demonstrate proficiency in the techniques of instrument cross-checking or scan.
- 4. Demonstrate the ability to intercept, bracket, and track the VOR, ADF, localizer and glide slopes.
- 5. Demonstrate proficiency in the execution of VOR, NDB, and ILS instrument approaches.
- 6. Demonstrate proficiency in the execution of Back Course ILS and DME arc instrument approaches.
- 7. Demonstrate proficiency in the execution of the LDA and SDF instrument approaches.
- 8. Demonstrate proficiency in the execution of the instrument departure procedure and standard terminal arrival procedures.
- 9. Define the procedures and techniques to resolve IFR emergencies.
- 10. Demonstrate the proficiency in the execution of flying IFR with a partial panel.
- 11. Demonstrate the proper communication responses to ATC directions and clearances.
