Course Description
This class will support the development of writing skills for the science professional. Students will learn standard formats and expressions appropriate for their profession. Students will also work on writing related to the presentation of capstone projects. NOT DEGREE APPLICABLE. Not Transferable.

- Demonstrate understandign of professional wriitng and its differences from creative writing.
Course Objectives
- 1. Students will be able to demonstrate the writing skills necessary to communicate in a professional manner within their chosen discipline.
Lecture Content
1. MLA format for citations. 2. Proper use of abbreviations and acronyms within a professional article. 3. Methods of synthesizing data for proper attribution. 4. Drafting a scientific abstract, with a proper thesis, supporting statements, and conclusion.

Child development/early childhood education: Masters degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR bachelors degree in any of the above AND masters degree in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies OR the equivalent. Masters degree required. Communication studies (speech communication): Masters degree in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication OR bachelors degree in any of the above AND masters degree in drama/ theater arts, mass communication, or English OR the equivalent. Masters degree required. Dental technology (dental assisting, dental hygiene): Any bachelors degree and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
