Interior Design
The Interior Design Program at Orange Coast College is dedicated to helping students develop their fullest potential in academic, professional, and personal skills, preparing them for a rewarding career in design. Grading Mode: Pass/No Pass
A laboratory based course to improve interior design skills. Students work independently according to a self-designed study plan they complete under the supervision of the course instructor. Periodic student teacher conferences and a final self assessment report are part of the course. Enrollment is open all semester. Students should be enrolled in an interior design course. This introductory course in design communication techniques will emphasize the importance of visual communication and three-dimensional design graphics for two-dimensional media. Course content will include subject matter and technique presentations in hand-drawn graphics. Design communications shall include orthographic projections, paralines, plan views, elevations, sections, basic perspective drawing, rendering and tonal value applications. Included in this coursework will be introductory applications of 3-D software as well integration with hand drawings.

This course introduces Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) as used to produce 2-dimensional design drawings. PCs with Autodesk Architecture or other Industry standard software will be used and instruction will focus on computer drawing a simple project to include the following drawing types: floor plan, site plan, elevations, and enlarged section/details. Students should have basic knowledge of computer operation and file management.

This course introduces Building Information Modeling (BIM) as used to produce a 3-dimensional architectural design model with an emphasis on the development of the interior. PCs with Autodesk Revit or other Industry-standard software will be used and instruction will focus on the interior development of a two-story commercial space with an emphasis on creating walls, doors, windows, materials, ceilings, casework, custom furniture, and rendering. Students should have basic knowledge of computer operation and file management. This course may also be offered online.
