It provides instruction in basic medical terminology, analysis from an anatomical approach and by each body system. This course introduces Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) in preparation for coding procedures of various body systems, disease processes and treatments in outpatient settings. The lab will consist of abstracting and analyzing case scenarios using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) diagnostic, CPT, and HCPCS level codes. Graded.

This is a lecture and lab based course that provides an overview on the structure and organization of the code set International Classification of Diseases-Procedure Classification System (ICD-PCS) required for reporting inpatient procedures. In this system, codes are built from a number of variables, including body systems, root operations, body parts, approaches, and more. Coding concepts, definitions, conventions and guidelines, will be examined through exercises and case studies. Graded.

This course reviews principles of revenue cycle management in healthcare. Topics covered include the scope and management of clinical data coded, process improvement and data quality and compliance for reimbursement services. Internal and external auditing, reporting, case-mix management, and changes in the revenue cycle management will be discussed. Practice with billing and insurance procedures relating to chargemaster description and maintenance will be provided. Graded.
