This program encompasses a selection of five major areas of laboratory skills for the preprofessional student. Students who finish this program will have mastered the hands-on basic laboratory skills covered in the four of the five courses: Cell and Molecular Biology (BIOL 180), Human Anatomy (BIOL C220), Microbiology (BIOL C210), Human Physiology (BIOL C225), and Introduction to Chemistry (CHEM C110).
Program Level Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program students will be able to:
- Demonstrate effective skills in the use of the compound microscope.
- Demonstrate ability to work with multiple forms of laboratory equipment.
- Demonstrate ability to perform specialized tests and/or dissections such as in microbiology and/or physiology and/or anatomy.
A Certificate is awarded upon completion of the required coursework with a grade of C or higher in each course. To receive the certificate, the student must file a petition for graduation during his/her final semester. In addition 50 percent of the certificate program’s units must be completed at Coastline.
