This is a low intermediate level certificate program in English as a Second Language which includes English reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It prepares students for further academic study in mid-intermediate level ESL courses by improving English language skills through a step-by-step grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening curriculum. After completing this certificate, students may go on to mid-intermediate ESL classes and pursue an ESL Intermediate Preparation for Careers Certificate of Competency, leading to higher-level ESL courses and eventually academic programs as well as career training programs.

- Express original ideas in appropriate, grammatically-correct sentences in response to level-appropriate readings in academic and real-world settings.
